King Edward VI School is proud to announce that its students have raised £2,000 for the local cardiac charity, Heartbeat. The donation will directly support Heartbeat’s work with young people facing cardiac disease, particularly funding the role of Cardiac Youth Worker, Becky Cutler, who supports young patients at University Hospital Southampton.

The funds were raised through a series of student-led initiatives, including a popular cake sale and a non-uniform day, organised by the school’s charity committee. These events not only showcased the creativity and generosity of the students but also highlighted their commitment to supporting local causes.

The school’s Charity Prepositor, Olivia, explained the motivation behind selecting Heartbeat as the focus for this year’s fundraising efforts: "We chose Heartbeat because we understand the importance of the work they do. Supporting people our age who are dealing with such serious health issues was something we felt strongly about. We're pleased to know our contribution will help fund equipment, research, and patient care, and we hope it will make a lasting impact in our community."

Neal Parker, Head of King Edward VI School, expressed his pride in the students’ efforts: "Our students have shown remarkable dedication in raising such a substantial amount for Heartbeat. It’s inspiring to see their commitment to helping others, particularly young people who are facing serious cardiac challenges. The pupils were especially moved by Becky’s role as a Cardiac Youth Worker, and I am delighted that their efforts will contribute directly to her important work."

The £2,000 donation will support Becky Cutler’s work, which is fully funded by Heartbeat. As a Cardiac Youth Worker, Becky provides critical emotional and practical support to young people with congenital heart disease, both in hospital and in the community. She reaches out to inpatients and outpatients at the hospital, as well as those in colleges, schools, or at home, ensuring they receive the care and guidance they need during such a challenging time.

The school is incredibly proud of its students and the wider community who contributed to these efforts, reinforcing the school’s commitment to making a positive difference. Their dedication to supporting local charities is a testament to the values we instil at King Edward VI School—compassion, community, and care for others.

King Edward VI School looks forward to continuing its charitable efforts in the future, working together to support those in need and make a lasting impact in the lives of others.
