What is Wellbeing at KES?

At King Edward VI School, wellbeing is quite literally at the heart of school life, with our Wellbeing Centre built in the centre of our school to reflect the central role it plays in everything we do. We believe that when pupils feel happy, confident and supported, they are best placed to learn, grow and succeed, both during their time at KES and in life beyond.

Wellbeing at KES isn’t an add-on. It’s part of the culture here: the everyday conversations with tutors, the encouragement of peers, the support of staff, and the specialist help available whenever it’s needed.

Wellbeing at KES is delivered through two complementary strands:

Pastoral Wellbeing
Our pastoral care ensures that every pupil is known, supported, and encouraged as an individual. Through a strong tutor system, experienced Heads of Year, a vibrant House community, and access to professional support from our nurses and school counsellor, pupils have a clear network of adults and peers they can turn to at any time. This strand is about relationships, guidance, and the everyday culture of care that underpins life at KES.

Curricular Wellbeing
Wellbeing is also embedded into the curriculum. Pupils explore age-appropriate topics such as mental health, resilience, relationships, digital life, and diversity, giving them the knowledge and skills to navigate today’s world with confidence. Alongside this, our wide co-curricular programme and pupil-led societies provide opportunities to explore identity, build friendships, and celebrate individuality. Parents are partners in this journey too, through engagement sessions designed to share insights and strengthen the partnership between home and school.

Wellbeing at KES is about more than care. It’s about belonging, resilience, and the confidence to face life with curiosity, compassion, and courage.
