KES School Structure

Lower School

On entering the Lower School, pupils are taught within classes of, on average, 22. Once in the Sixth Form, classes are smaller still with an average class size of 8. Small teaching groups throughout the School are supported by the very latest technology and modern facilities including an extensive use of 1:1 digital learning.

The Lower School curriculum aims to provide breadth, balance and variety of activity. English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and Foreign Languages feature strongly, alongside the breadth of Humanities, Drama, Art, Design & Technology, Music and Sport.

Upper School

Pupils at KES have flexibility to devise a programme of GCSE studies to suit their passions and talents. Our core subjects are Maths, English Literature and English Language. In addition, all pupils either take all three science subjects or, if they wish, may opt to take double-award science. This provides a grounding in physics, biology and chemistry while enabling pupils to pursue an additional option choice in another subject.

Pupils then choose three or four options from the following; History, Geography, Economics, Philosophy, Latin, Classical Civilisation, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Computer Science, Sport Science, Art, Music, Design & Technology, Dance and Drama.

Sixth Form

All students study a full-time course of three A Levels. Those wishing to study Further Mathematics will take four A Levels, and many students will choose to additionally complete the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification). There is a wide and exciting variety of A Level subjects on offer at King Edward's Sixth Form, find the extensive list of subject choices here.
