Sports Scholarships- Sixth Form
King Edward VI School would be delighted to receive applications for sports scholarships from talented sports men and women entering the Sixth Form. These awards recognise the growth and success in sport at KES in recent years and will ensure that we can continue to build on the high levels of performance currently demonstrated by our students.
Sport is thriving at the school with over three-quarters of the community involved in competitive sport at some stage during the academic year. Our sports team have enjoyed a great deal of success and since 2015 have achieved the following:
Elite Sports Performer Programme
KES runs a well established Elite Sports Performer Programme which enables the sports department to support and further develop the most able sports performers at the school in their chosen sport(s). Scholars will automatically be members of this scheme.
Criteria
Applicants will have competed at the equivalent to regional level or higher in their chosen sports.
Process
Candidates should complete and return the application form below by 12 February 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview with members of the sports department in school and staff from the sports department may ask for your fixtures so that they can watch you play in a competitive context. Whilst applications from all sports are welcome, preference is likely to be given to the main team sports: rugby, hockey, netball and cricket.
Value of the award
The value of the award is normally no more than 5% of the school fee. However, it is awarded at the discretion of the Head, based on recommendation from the Director of Sport.

As a Sports Scholar, you will:
- Be expected to work hard to develop towards achieving your potential
- Make a significant contribution to competitive sport at King Edward's
- Be assigned to a mentor within the Sports Department
- Be a role model to all students at King Edward's
- Have access to top class sporting facilities
How will the school support you?
The School will:
- Support you in your everyday life at King Edward's
- Support you with any training requirements as appropriate
- Support you in liaising with other parties in relation to your sporting development
- Support you in achieving your academic potential
- Challenge you to work to achieve your sporting potential as well as achieving academic success
