Safeguarding (1)

Safeguarding

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils. We fundamentally believe that every child has the right to learn in a safe environment, and that the safeguarding and welfare of children is everyone's responsibility in the school.

Safeguarding is at the centre of our pastoral care provision. We recognise that all staff have a role to play in ensuring we keep our students safe, and as such, all staff appointed to work at the School undergo child protection screening.

Students are encouraged to speak to any member of staff with any concerns they may have. Our staff are trained to listen and to follow clear processes to ensure the child's concerns are addressed efficiently. Students also have access to a team of qualified nurses, a counsellor, tutors and The Wellbeing Centre throughout their time at King Edward's.

Our Child Protection policy can be accessed below, and has been compiled in line with national framework and guidance from the Department of Education. This document is updated regularly, and provides details on clear actions we take to ensure the safeguarding of pupils.

The School’s Child Protection Officers undertake formal refresher training every two years and in addition to this they regularly attend local network meetings and other relevant courses. Whole staff training is conducted every three years. On joining the School all new staff are inducted in Child Protection matters and they also undertake training, in the form of a Child Protection video produced by the School.
