Pastoral Wellbeing

At King Edward VI School, pastoral wellbeing is about more than support - it’s about creating a safe, nurturing environment where every pupil feels valued, understood, and able to develop as themselves. Our pastoral wellbeing provision combines specialist spaces, targeted programmes, and expert staff, all working together to meet the needs of every child.

Wellbeing Centre
Our Wellbeing Centre is a calm, welcoming hub at the heart of the school. Staffed by our Head of Pastoral Wellbeing and Curriculum Support Team, it offers tailored support for pupils who need a little extra guidance. Whether it’s one-to-one conversations, practical strategies, or structured programmes, the Centre ensures every pupil has the tools and encouragement to navigate challenges confidently.

Food
Nutrition plays an important role in wellbeing. Our catering team provides healthy, varied meals every day, helping pupils to fuel their bodies and minds and encouraging positive eating habits that support both concentration and overall wellbeing.

Girls on Board
This programme empowers girls to explore confidence, leadership, and self-awareness, supporting them to navigate relationships, peer pressure, and personal development in a supportive, structured setting.

Gender Action
Our Gender Action initiative promotes understanding and equality, giving all pupils the opportunity to explore identity, respect, and healthy communication across genders.

Working with Boys
This programme is designed to support boys in developing emotional intelligence, resilience, and respectful relationships. It provides targeted guidance to help them navigate challenges both in school and beyond.

Nursing Team
Our approachable and professional nurses are available to help with everyday health concerns, manage ongoing medical needs, and provide reassurance or advice. They are a vital part of our pastoral team, ensuring pupils have practical and emotional support whenever they need it.

School Counsellor
Our on-site counsellor, Annie, provides a confidential, safe space for pupils to reflect, talk, and develop strategies to manage challenges. She helps pupils build resilience, cope with pressure, and feel supported, making sure no child faces difficulties alone.

Peer Mentoring

Every member of our Sixth Form is given the opportunity to be part of the Peer Mentor programme. With specialist training in safeguarding and listening they are paired to work with younger pupils who need an older friend to talk to. They meet weekly, either sitting and talking, playing cards or table football or simply going for a walk around the school. This time provides an opportunity to connect with a sympathetic ear for the younger pupil and support can be given on friendships, anxiety, academic or sporting commitments. Mentors are one of the ways we encourage our older pupils to be positive school role models and the programme helps to build on the community within the school.
