We are seeking a well-qualified and dynamic Acting Head of Dance to lead this vibrant and expanding area within our Creative Arts faculty. Dance is a visible and highly valued part of life at King Edward’s, with strong uptake at GCSE and a rich programme of performances and co-curricular opportunities. This role offers the opportunity to shape the direction of a one-person department and further develop its curriculum and performance provision. The successful candidate will teach across the full range of ages and topics, from Lower School through to GCSE.

The Acting Head of Dance will be responsible for the leadership, delivery, and ongoing creation of the Dance curriculum and co-curricular programme. This includes setting the vision for the department, overseeing teaching and learning, managing resources, and ensuring high standards of performance and achievement. The successful candidate will also lead the organisation and delivery of key events, including the annual Dance Gala and school productions, while driving the continued growth, profile, and creative direction of Dance across the school.

Dance at King Edward’s celebrates the diverse styles and talents of our pupils. The Lower School curriculum includes Year 7 Extended Studies that explores a variety of styles, an inclusive and an engaging Year 9 course that develops performance, choreography, and appreciation skills. At GCSE, pupils follow the AQA specification, where they learn to perform, choreograph, and analyse dance as an art form.

Co-curricular dance is a major strength of the department, with several lunchtime and after school clubs. Pupils perform regularly in assemblies, concerts, school productions, and the annual Dance Gala, a highlight of the school calendar featuring over 100 performers across two sold-out evenings. Theatre trips, professional workshops, and visiting artists further enrich the department’s provision.

This fixed-term opportunity is on a part-time 0.6 basis, with working days being Monday, Thursday, and Friday.

King Edward’s has its own generous salary scale as well as contributing a highly competitive 22.5% employer contribution to the APTIS Defined Contribution Pension Scheme and a reduction in school fees. The school boasts a range of quality professional development opportunities and offers flexibility to work off site when appropriate.

Trainee Teacher

We are seeking a well-qualified graduate to join our bespoke ITT programme leading to Qualified Teacher Status.  The training we provide is fully funded and is accredited by the University of Southampton. 

This position is initially fixed term for two years, although the opportunity to stay at the school after this may be available.  During these two years you will teach a reduced timetable allowing you to study and you will have the opportunity to attend external training.

In school, you will be guided through your induction and training by supportive professional development mentors.  We have an extensive programme of CPD for all staff and can offer specific training relating to your areas of interest and ambition.  In the second year of your training you will undertake a placement in another local school.

We welcome trainee applications in Economics and Computer Science.  You should have a minimum of a 2.1 degree.  You could be a new graduate or you could be looking to move into teaching after starting your career in another sector.  You should be enthusiastic, hardworking, resilient and willing to contribute in all areas of school life, particularly our extensive co-curricular programme.

There will also be an opportunity to teach Business A level in addition. 

The post would be equally suitable for someone seeking a first appointment or an experienced teacher. A willingness to contribute to the School’s wide range of co-curricular activities is expected. Small teaching groups throughout the School are supported by the very latest technology and modern facilities including an extensive use of 1:1 digital learning.

Minibus Driver

Minibus Driver

5.30pm – 7.30pm - Term Time Only

£13.69 per hour plus benefits

We are looking to appoint a minibus driver to join our team, Monday to Friday late shift 5.30pm – 7.30pm during term time only. You would be responsible for driving one of our 16-seater minibuses to drive students to and from school. 

You must hold a clean driving licence with category D1 entitlement (drivers who passed their car test before 1st January 1997), or a current PSV licence.  Previous experience of working with young people would be an advantage.
