Pastoral Structure
At King Edward VI School, our pastoral team is made up of an exceptional group of everyday heroes, working together to bring our wellbeing programme to life. From tutors and Heads of Year to our House teams, every member contributes their expertise, care, and energy to ensure pupils feel supported, understood, and valued. Their combined efforts create a cohesive, family-like environment where every child can thrive and feel confident in all aspects of school life.
But that’s not all. We are also fortunate to have a highly skilled team providing specialist support for our pupils. In our class-leading Wellbeing Centre, our Head of Wellbeing, Wellbeing Manager, and Curriculum Support Team work closely with individuals who benefit from a tailored approach. Just across the Memorial Garden, our experienced nursing team and on-site counsellor offer expert care and guidance. All of these efforts are coordinated by our Deputy Head (Pastoral), who holds overall responsibility for the safety, wellbeing, and pastoral provision for every pupil at KES.
Find out more below about who they are and how your child may interact with each of these dedicated members during their time at KES.
Tutors & Tutor Groups
Every pupil belongs to a tutor group, led by a dedicated tutor who meets them daily. Tutors are the first port of call for guidance and advice, building strong relationships and offering consistent support throughout the year.
Heads of Year
Heads of Year provide oversight, continuity and expertise, working closely with tutors to monitor progress, wellbeing, and development. They ensure that no pupil is ever overlooked and that every child is supported both academically and personally.
Heads of Section
Each Head of Section: for Lower School, Upper School, or Sixth Form oversees the wellbeing of hundreds of pupils and the staff who support them. Experienced Heads of Year themselves, they provide leadership, guidance, and continuity, ensuring every child receives consistent pastoral care throughout their time at KES.
School Counsellor
Our qualified school counsellor, Annie, offers pupils a safe and confidential space to talk. She helps pupils navigate challenges, develop strategies, and feel supported when life feels demanding or uncertain.
School Nurses
Our nursing team is a familiar and approachable presence in school life. They support pupils with everyday medical concerns, long-term health needs, and provide reassurance whenever it is needed. Their role extends beyond physical care, offering practical advice and emotional support to pupils and families alike.
Houses
Our House system brings pupils together across year groups, creating a sense of belonging and pride. Houses encourage friendships beyond the classroom, build leadership skills, and provide opportunities for healthy competition and collaboration in a wide variety of activities.
