King Edward VI School celebrates its history on Founders' Day 2024
On Tuesday 2 July, the whole school celebrated Founders' Day, a day dedicated to mark the founding of King Edward VI School in 1553. This year was the first year we have marked the anniversary with a full day of fun activities. The day commenced with a Thanksgiving service led by the Chaplain informing the pupils of our rich and expansive history. During the rest of the morning each year group competed in House Competitions - Year 7 Dance, Year 8 Art, Year 9 Public Speaking, Year 10 Drama, while our Lower Sixth pupils explored the importance of emotional intelligence in leadership through an inspirational workshop. They worked on developing their leadership skills and knowledge, so important as they move towards the end of their school lives and into the adult world.

From dance to sculpture to public speaking, each year group worked on a different project with their House to show off their creativity and teamwork.

At lunchtime the fun continued with pupil bands playing from the school balcony whilst the school encouraged the staff in a tug of war competition, well done to our winning Sports department!

Whilst other sporting activities took place during the afternoon the centrepiece was the student v staff cricket match which was heavily contested and ended in a tie with the staff unable to gain 2 runs off the final ball.

The day concluded with this year's Prize Giving Ceremony, an evening that celebrated some of our pupils' remarkable achievements over the last academic year. We were delighted to welcome the Lord Lieutenant for Hampshire as our special guest, and to hear him speak about perseverance and integrity. Congratulations to our prize winners.
