King Edward VI School hosts String Taster Day for local primary schools as part of diverse Partnerships Programme
On Tuesday 26 September, King Edward VI School hosted a ‘Strings Taster Day’ for local primary schools within the wider Southampton Community. The day consisted of thirty pupils learning and playing their musical instruments together; the year five and six children showcased their impressive talents by playing alongside KES students in a public concert in the afternoon solely featuring music that had been learned throughout the day. The group of musicians also participated in additional activities that highlighted to the children the importance of playing and making music as they continue through their education and into adulthood including a Double Bass taster session and a drawing session in the Art department.
“The musical experience for our pupils was highly motivating for them and will, I'm sure, encourage them to continue playing their instruments and making music, which is so important!” - Deputy Headteacher, Wordsworth Primary School.
"It is always a pleasure to help the next generation of musicians along their journey by providing in an environment amongst like-minded peers in which to thrive. Our own students value their chance to help too, so it is days like the Strings Day are invaluable.” - Alexander Eadon, Director of Music, King Edward VI School.
At King Edward’s we greatly value our relationship with state schools in the wider, local community. As part of our Partnerships Programme, each year we partner with numerous local schools to build strong connections and friendships between pupils. Activities range from workshops in areas as diverse as Mathematics, Computing, Modern Languages, Music, Science, Coding, Dance and Sport. The String Taster Day was another excellent addition to our Partnerships Programme. We look forward to more partnership activity days in the future.
