King Edward VI School shortlisted as a FINALIST in category of OUTSTANDING PASTORAL CARE in the 2023 Muddy Stilettos Awards

12 May 2023

We are delighted to share that we have been shortlisted as a finalist in the category of outstanding pastoral care in this year's Muddy Stiletto's Best Schools Awards.

This shortlist reflects genuine and sustained progress over the past few years, and we are collectively proud to be recognised by Muddy Stilettos, as judged against all schools across the country.

King Edward VI School places every child at the heart of all that we do. Our pastoral duty as a school is a broad term that encompasses all aspects of life at King Edward’s and this responsibility of the children is reflected in our story. We want pupils at King Edward’s to be kind, caring young people committed to helping others as well as developing their own unique personality strengths and character. We understand that the importance of mental health care is critical and as a response, have invested resources in supporting this.

Mr. Collinson, Deputy Head Pastoral says "We are thrilled to see our school acknowledged as a finalist in this very important category. Our objective has always been to create a Wellbeing Programme across all areas of the school and to transform the way we talk about wellbeing and mental health. It is so important for us to increase the sense of connection between members of our community, so that we can all support each other better’

The vision has been to transform the culture of the school by elevating pastoral care, installing an ethos amongst pupils to support one another. We are incredibly proud of the steps we have taken to fulfil our ambitions, including embedding wellbeing into the curriculum, launching a wellbeing survey, building a wellbeing centre in the heart of our school, appointment of a new Head of Wellbeing, the introduction of peer support and placing an emphasis on digital wellbeing most recently by hosting our first ever Cyber Security Conference.

Mr. Parker, Head says "We are incredibly proud of the pastoral care here at King Edward VI School, Southampton. We can see first hand the impact these changes have made to our young pupils and the communities around us. Whilst our vision has become a reality, we strive continuously to improve and ensure we are offering the most outstanding pastoral care to our young people in our care"
