Spanish
The number of pupils studying Spanish has increased greatly in recent years, partly as a result of the national trend, and partly as a result of the infectious enthusiasm and expertise of a thriving department here at King Edward’s.
The teachers in the department, many of whom are native speakers, have an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish language and of Spanish and Hispanic culture, and their aim is not only to teach the language so that students can communicate efficiently but also to transmit a passion for all things Hispanic to their pupils.
Head of Spanish, Mrs Ladislao, shares more information about studying Spanish at King Edward VI School.

Trips
- Cataluňa: students can sign up for a trip to Cataluňa in the Summer Term for 5 days (Year 7 and Year 8).
- Andalucía: there is the opportunity to take part in a Homestay programme in Andalucía, staying with host families and attending language lessons in a specialist language school. This trip takes place at the beginning of the Easter holidays (Year 9 and Year 10).
Theatre Trips:
We are dependent on what's on offer at the cinema and the theatre, or if there is an appropriate study day available, for example, but a trip to the theatre in London to see a play in Spanish in the Autumn term has become the norm, having now watched several plays by Lorca and I. Allende.
Other opportunities:
Every year we also welcome the Onatti Theatre company who put on a play for Year 9.
