Chemistry

Chemistry holds a central position between Physics and Biology and has a very wide range of real-life applications. Throughout our Chemistry courses we focus heavily on practical work across the year groups. We are lucky enough to have five specific Chemistry laboratories and our own expert technician, which enables us to deliver effective experiments to enhance students’ enjoyment and understanding.

Chemistry is respected as a rigorous academic subject. Successful chemistry students are good at understanding conceptual models and learning large bodies of fact. They can apply many ideas at once and construct logical arguments often backed up with mathematical precision. These skills will always be in demand and chemists are recruited far beyond the obvious careers of research and industry.

We follow the GCSE Edexcel course from Third Year to Fifth Year. This course provides an excellent all-round appreciation of the subject, whilst also preparing students appropriately for A Level; many of our students chose to take chemistry in the Sixth Form.

We focus heavily on practical work across the year groups. We are lucky enough to have five specific chemistry laboratories and our own expert technician, which enables us to deliver effective experiments to enhance students’ enjoyment and understanding.
