At King Edward's, we have high academic expectations, and believe success is achieved through a genuine curiosity and love for learning.
Our curriculum has been devised to stretch and challenge our pupils, develop their skills and talents and provide an excellent foundation for when they enter the Sixth Form and beyond.
Our broad curriculum is designed to provide an enriching and interesting experience, encouraging a range of interests and is continually under review. Alongside our rich curriculum, students participate in weekly games lessons and fortnightly PSHE lessons.
Lower School
On entering the Lower School, pupils are taught within classes of, on average, 22. Once in the Sixth Form, classes are smaller still with an average class size of 8. Small teaching groups throughout the School are supported by the very latest technology and modern facilities including an extensive use of 1:1 digital learning.
The Lower School curriculum aims to provide breadth, balance and variety of activity. English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and Foreign Languages feature strongly, alongside the breadth of Humanities, Drama, Art, Design & Technology, Music and Sport.
Upper School
In the Upper School, a degree of specialisation develops with GCSE subject choices, but many keep their options open and combine a variety of subjects in the Arts and Science. The compulsory subjects are English, Mathematics, at least one Modern Language 1, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, at least one Humanities subject, Religious Studies, Physical Education and Games. Pupils must then choose three from among the following; History, Geography, Economics, Philosophy, Latin, Classical Civilisation, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Computer Science, Sport Science, Art, Music, Design & Technology, Dance and Drama.
